Those aluminum hot shoe adapters are nice in a pinch or for hooking things up like a laser pointer or phone mount for quick Google sky orientation, etc., but they tend to wobble and seem designed more for video adapters like mics or lights.

I found a place in the USA selling a red dot finder to mount on the hot shoe flash gun holder of the camera but it looked expensive and I didn't fancy paying import duty. I bought a hot shoe to tripod mount ( niceEshop(TM) 1/4 Inch Tripod Mount Screw To Flash Hot Shoe Adapter For SLR Camera -Black ) from Amazon for £1.59.

Is there a laser pointer pen that mounts to the camera's hotshoe?

It would be an excellent option for aligning a camera for astro/night shots. Curious to see if something like this exists...

You'd make one yourself.
Get a hotshoe adapter;

and get a laser site.
I'd actually prefer one of the laser sites with a weaver rail clamp, and attach it to the Arca lens plate.

I want one so I can align my camera sensor plane to a focus target on a wall 50 ft away. I have a hotshoe bubble leveler that fixes the camera's roll and pitch, but not shift and yaw.

I so need this:

Why have one strap for one camera and another strap for the other camera when I can just have one strap with one camera on the bottom and the other connected via the hotshoe? It makes perfect sense....
...Just like a double necked guitar.

If the wall is vertical, try fixing a mirror to the wall in the centre of your target. If you can see the camera in the mirror (through the viewfinder), then the camera sensor is aligned.
Apologies if I misunderstood your purpose.

Cheers, Damien

All joking aside i did shoot like this once, i was using the camera on the bottom normally and either a camera shooting a time lapse or video on the top.. pointless but the looks i got were great

What about this? Something tells me it would not work because the laser could be dead center but the camera could still have yaw and you wouldn't know.

That with one of those rifle stock camera/lens holders might be pretty cool and it would be make you look like a dork!
